After waiting 10 days since the last update from our agency, we still have no news on travel dates. One disadvantage to traveling in a group is that we have to wait for other families to get all their paperwork done. If one family gets held up, the rest of group has to wait. The speculated travel at the end of September is not going happen. Now, October is probably more realistic.
I called HR today to request time off after we get back from Vietnam. Under the FMLA, I’m entitled to 12 weeks off to care for a child following the placement of the child with the employee through adoption or foster care. I was so disappointed to find out that the 12 weeks is unpaid leave. I was hoping that taking time off for adoption under the FMLA would be the same as maternity leave. It turns out that, after having a baby, your disability benefit is for the mother to recover. With adoption, even though I need time to bond with our children, I’m not disabled. I’m still able to work. I guess the FMLA doesn’t take adoption seriously.
I’m “financially disabled.” Doesn’t that count for anything?
UGH!!!!!!!!! The same thing happened to us. We had to wait for somebody to finish their paperwork. Well hopefully you will hear some good news soon. I bet you have to be in VN the first week of October
